Monday 22 - Sunday 28 July 2013
Welcome to the website for the 2013 International Congress, whose theme is Knowledge at Work.
The International Congress of History of Science, Technology and Medicine is the largest event in the field, and takes place every four years. Recent meetings have been held in Mexico City (2001), Beijing (2005) and Budapest (2009).
In 2013, the Congress will take place in Manchester, the chief city of Northwest England, and the original "shock city" of the Industrial Revolution. Congress facilities will be provided by The University of Manchester, with tours and displays on local scientific, technological and medical heritage co-ordinated by members of the University's Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine. Suggestions of things to see and do in and around Manchester are available here.
The call for stand-alone paper proposals is now open. The deadline is Friday 30 November 2012. Decisions will be announced in February.
On behalf of the organising committees, we very much hope that you will be able to join us in Manchester!
Latest news
The call for symposium proposals has now closed. Our thanks to the organisers for the very large number of proposals we have received from around the world. The Programmes Committee is now examining the proposals, and decisions will be announced at the beginning of July. We will then seek individual paper abstracts from the symposium contributors.
Young scholars' prize: A reminder that the Third DHST Prize for Young Scholars will be awarded at the Congress in Manchester. The prize is awarded every four years by the IUHPS/DHST, and is open to anyone who has received a doctoral degree in the history of science or technology no earlier than July 2008. The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday 31 August 2012.
